After adventurous careers as foreign corresponents and many years of leading unique adventures in Africa, we are now opening up our magical farmhouse in northern Sweden to select visitors.
We have renovated this beautiful 19th century timbered farmstead and annex and can accomodate up to 12 guests.
The property is situated on the outskirts of the small village of Gimdalen in Jämtland county and it is surrounded by pristine lakes and streams including the Gim river which is internationally renowned for its fly fishing.
We offer four unique seasons of adventure. Midnight sun in the summer, golden forests in the autumn, snow and frozen lakes in the winter and then spring comes with crisp sunny days while the snow lingers and the lakes are still frozen.
In the cold season we offer cross country skiing, snowmobile adventures, ice fishing and access to the slalom slopes of Åre only an hour and half away. We have a stunning wood fired sauna and cosy woodstoves.
In the summers we offer top class fishing in the lakes and on the renowned Gim River, kayak and canoe adventures, hiking, mountain biking and much more.
We are experienced guides with many years of experience guiding expeditions and safaris in Africa and here in the wild north.
There are flights to Stockholm with connections to nearby Östersund or direct flights to Östersund from London and Berlin. The train service from Stockholm, Arlanda is comfortable and efficient and delivers you directly to Bräcke, our closest town.
I grew up on a cattle ranch in the high Drakensberg mountains of South Africa. The outdoors, fishing, hiking horse riding and hunting have been a natural part of my life since childhood. I have for many years been able to combine my passion for the outdoors and for the conservation of nature with my work as a photojournalist. It is now my privilege to be able to share this passion with people who choose to travel with us at Afrika Select or visit us at Mogården, our farmhouse in Gimdalen, Jämtland. I am happy to provide photographic tips and support to our guests on request.
I have always loved the forests in Jämtland but already as a teenager I was fascinated by international politics and social justice, so I put aside my wilderness dreams and focused on becoming an international journalist.
At the age of 26 I became the SVT (Swedish Television) Africa correspondent and began my career reporting on the release from prison of Nelson Mandela in 1990.
Since then South Africa has been my second home and together with Simon Stanford I have reported from the African continent for over 30 years.
The outdoors, horse riding, hiking, paddling or just being in the forests and mountains has always remained a passion. At our farm in the village of Gimdalen, from where my mother originates, it feels as if I have come home and it give me great pleasure to be able to share the experience with our guests. Here is where I find peace.
